Application |
Applications must be received by March 1, 2007. Although this is a program sponsored by Syracuse University, applicants from any college or university are encouraged to apply and, based on their academic backgrounds, have as much chance of being accepted as Syracuse students. Qualified applicants will be accepted on a rolling basis as completed applications are received by the university. An application form may be downloaded here. |

Portfolios |
You do not need to include examples of fashion photography in your portfolio, although, if you have done some, please feel free to include examples. The Program Directors would like to see what you consider to be your best photographic work, regardless of genre. We'd like to see how, and what, you see. So if you happen to be experienced in photojournalism, for example, send news pictures. Portfolios should include 10-12 examples of your work. Portfolios may be submitted in whatever form is easiest for the applicant. However, the Program Directors would prefer not to have to return portfolios by mail. If you have your work displayed on a web site, please send the link to Professor Mason for evaluation. Pictures saved as jpeg files may be sent to Professor Mason as e-mail attachments. CD portfolios, digital prints, slide copies can be mailed to : |

Camera Equipment |
The use of a digital single lens reflex camera is strongly recommended, although it is not required. You may work with film if you do not have access to a digital SLR. Ideally, your camera would have at least a 5 Megapixel resolution and allow you to control shutter speeds and apertures manually. Also, a fast lens (apertures to f2.8, f2, f1.8 or larger) is especially valuable. For example, many past students have used either Canon 20D or Nikon D100 camera bodies. Students may work with whatever focal length lenses they prefer, although each has advantages or disadvantages for fashion/beauty work. For example, wide angle lenses work well for full-length pictures but are less than desirable for tight facial shots. Even if you have only a 50mm lens, we will work to see that you use it optimally. Many students also bring a pocket digital camera to record stills and videos of their various experiences abroad. |
